The WTA Tour Championships is a tennis tournament played annually at the end of the season for the
top-ranked players on the WTA tour. Since 2003 there have been eight singles players divided into two
groups, and four doubles teams. It has the largest prize money and ranking points after the Grand Slams,
making it a very prestigious tournament. The most successful player by far has been Martina Navratilova
with 8 singles titles and 12 in doubles. Petra Kvitova is the defending champion.

After suffering from blood clotting in her lungs and a wrist injury in 2011, Serena Williams came fighting back this year cementing her claim to the greatest of all time tag. The younger of the two Williams sister won 2 Grand Slams an Olympic Gold medal. The 30 year-old won 7 titles in the year and lost just 4 matches all year long, despite a poor showing at the first two Grand Slams of the year.
