Fed Cup is the premier team event in women's tennis. It was launched in 1963 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The event was known as the Federation Cup until 1994, but then its name was shortened to Fed Cup. It is equivalent to the men's premier team event the Davis Cup. This prestigious women’s tournament is a week-long knockout event that gives players the opportunity to represent their country in an otherwise individual sport.
