Isner startles Almagro; claims Houston clay crown
Former top-tenner John Isner became the first American man to beat a Spaniard on a clay-court in 15 years as he overwhelmed top seed Nicolas Almagro in straight sets to claim his 6th career ATP title. Isner undoubtedly played out of his skin as he was not going for his shots early on in the rallies but was rather willing to toil hard on the day. His perseverance paid-off as he joined the likes of Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish and Ryan Sweeting as the only US players to lift the trophy at the River Oaks country Club.
