In fact, such has been his domination in Monte Carlo and Barcelona that he has claimed a joint 16 titles at both those venues. However, 2014 has turned out to be completely unsuccessful as he has suffered quarterfinal exits at the two events.

Nadal stunned by Almagro in Barcelona

Nadal stunned by Almagro in Barcelona Spanish No.3 Nicolas Almagro achieved the unbelievable and did the unthinkable on Friday as he knocked out the eight time champion Rafael Nadal from the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open here inside the Talisman Court - a venue where the 13-time Grand Slam champion had won his previous 41 matches and had last lost a match when he was a 15 year old teenager back in 2003. However, lady luck was perhaps on the World No.20's side as the southpaw was surprisingly erratic on the big points in both the second set tiebreaker and in the final set, allowing Almagro to accomplish his first win over him in 11 meetings.

Clinical Nadal marches on to Barcelona Quarters World No.1 Rafael Nadal looked determined not to repeat his performance from Wednesday as he put up a much tidy display against Ivan Dodig of Croatia to accomplish his 41st successive victory at the Real Club de Tennis Barcelona to march into the last 8 stage of the Barcelona Open here in the Catalan capital on Thursday. The King of Clay was in absolute control of his destiny right from the off as he dominated the proceeding with the support of his forehand from the baseline and that was the prime reason behind his 6-3, 6-3 win over him during the course of the evening.
