currently held in Madrid, Spain, during the first week of May. The event is classified as an ATP World
Tour Masters 1000 event on the Association of Tennis Professionals tour and a Premier Mandatory
event on the Women's Tennis Association tour. Despite having been played on blue courts in the 2012
tournament edition the ATP decided against it for the 2013 edition. Roger Federer is the defending
champion.

Ruthless Serena overpowers Sharapova, defends Madrid Open title
Defending champion Serena Williams successfully defended her Madrid Open title as she produced a real masterclass against the 2nd seed Maria Sharapova at the Caja Magica today. As has been the case over the years, Serena never let the Russian to find her range in the clash and by winning her 12 consecutive bout over the 26 year old she also snapped the 21 match winning streak of Sharapova on the red dirt.
