The Mexican Open or the Abierto Mexicano, (currently sponsored by Telcel) is a tennis tournament held in Acapulco, Mexico. It is an event on both the ATP Tour (ATP World Tour 500 series) and the WTA Tour (International). It has been on the ATP tour since 1993, and began on the WTA in 2001. The tournament was held in Mexico City from 1993-1998, and again in 2000, before being relocated to Acapulco in 2001. David Ferrer is the three time defending champion.

Nadal slaughters Ferrer, lifts Acapulco crown Terrorizing, ruthless and utterly dominant are the three words that best describe the performance of Rafael Nadal today as he completely annihilated top seed David Ferrer who was given a lesson of his life about how to play on the slow brickish facade. Nadal finished-off the 6-0, 6-2 demolition of the world no.4 in just over an hour and with that he also clinched his 38th clay-court title and his 52nd overall.

Solid Rafa thwarts the challenge of Almagro, will face Ferrer in the Acapulco final Rafael Nadal put on a solid act against his Davis Cup teammate Nicolas Almagro to reach his third consecutive final in as many events since his return to competitive tennis after a seven month lay-off from injury. The man who owns the red surface was just too strong to clinch a 7-5, 6-4 victory over the 3rd seed in an hour and 49 minutes and will now take on his good friend David Ferrer for his 52nd ATP title tomorrow.
