World number one ranked Serena Williams has been fined a record $82,500 for her outburst on a line judge at this year U.S Open and recieved a stern warning from the officials that if she has another “major offense” at any Grand Slam in the next two years that will result in her suspension from the U.S. Open in 2010, 2011 and/or 2012 and her fine would be increased to $175,000.
Williams said: “I want to sincerely apologise first to the lineswoman, the USTA, and mostly tennis fans everywhere for my inappropriate outburst.
“I’m a woman of great pride, faith and integrity, and I admit when I’m wrong.
“I need to make it clear to all young people that I handled myself inappropriately and it’s not the way to act — win or lose, good call or bad call in any sport, in any manner.
“I like to lead by example. We all learn from experiences both good and bad, I will learn and grow from this, and be a better person as a result.”
Anti-climatic. They made such a big deal out of this that folks thought it'd be much worse. I wonder who are the idiots that came up with the insanely outrageous fine amount of one mil and losing ranking points? Anyhoo, glad it's over. It should have not taken this long to reach this decision.

I couldn't agree more. Why do they make such a fuss about all ths, if the player has to get away with the monetary penalisation...
