So, how many analysts think women's tennis is a mess?

I mean the impartial ones - not those working for TV stations who need to keep their viewing figures. Tracy Austin is hardly going to say "Might as well switch over guys", even if that's roughly what she's thinking.

Lindsay Davenport - Said 2009 was an awful year for women's tennis. You have to wonder, then, whether she thinks this year has been an improvement, apart from those first few months.

Martina Navratilova - Has often commented on the poor fitness of some of the players, and the lack of variety. She doesn't think much of any of these ineptovas.

Anna Kournikova - Said nobody knows who the top players are, and that they're one-dimensional, which is true.

Justine Henin - Said recently that one of the reasons she came back was because some of the players she saw didn't look very fit.

Roger Federer - Doesn't watch women's tennis now, although he implied that he used to at one time. Hmm, wonder why?

Steffi Graf - Doesn't watch women's tennis, but is careful not to say why. It's obvious - it bores her. That's why she says she watches the men's.

Virginia Wade - Most of the top players today can't hit angles (!)

Sue Barker - Women's tennis has no leader or star players

So you can read between the lines here. The word is that women's tennis is a total embarrassment, but they're careful about saying it out of guilt and politeness.

Actually, it is surprising why women's tennis is not interesting what with all the glamour and short dresses!! And some of the matches are highly competitive as well. I guess it is a case of being overshadowed by a more intense Men's tennis circuit. Otherwise, if women's tennis were to be alone, it should be very popular.
