With a place in the final at stake, we reach the semi-finals stage at the 2012 E-Boks Sony Ericsson Open and we have two action packed matches lined up for you.
The first match will feature Jelena Jankovic of Serbia and Angelique Kerber of Germany. Currently ranked as World No. 20 in the WTA Rankings, Jelena Jankovic has not been able to re-create her magic on court after suffering with recurring injuries in the last two seasons. This season the Serbian has an ordinary 13-9 win-loss record and she is bidding for 13th career title. She faces a rejuvenated Kerber, who has an impressive 18-6 won-loss record and she is looking very strong. The twenty four years old German is gunning for her second WTA career title – and second of the new season.
The next to be played on court will feature the two time defending champion Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Martic of Croatia. Wozniacki lost her World No.1 ranking this year and is presently ranked at 6 in the World. She would be looking to reclaim that spot. Though her performances have been fairly consistent, she has not been able to cross the hurdles when deep into a tournament. Her semi-final at the Sony Ericsson Open proved that she is coming back into form. Wozniacki has a good 15-6 win-loss record this year and she is bidding for 19th career title.
Martic, ranked as 57th in the World is looking to win her first title on the WTA tour. She comes into this tournament with a 9-7 record. She failed to get a few back-to-back wins this year and she would want to overcome that hurdle today. In head-to-head, Wozniacki apparently leads with 2-0. Last time they met in the same event in 2010, when the Dane prevailed in straight sets.
We can expect some stunning action today between these four contenders – vying for the spot in the final.
