Zvonareva made a bad start to the match and fell victim to Clijsters' powerful shotmaking from the back of the court and lost the opening set by 6 games to 3. As the match progressed, Zvonareva found her rhythm to break Clijsters early on in the second set and despite losing her own serve at 5-3, broke Clijsters in the tenth game to level the match at one set a piece.
The Decider turned out to be a lop-sided affair as Zvonareva broke Clisjters' serve with the help of her blistering backhand winners and completed the 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in one hour and 48 minutes of gruelling tennis.
She now meets Wold No.82 Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova, who took out second seed and five time champion Venus Williams in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2 to enter her maiden Grand Slam semifinals.
