Seventh seed and Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva today proved that her recent runs in Grand Slams is no fluke but in a reality a natural progression of her improvement as a player when she made it to the semifinals of the 2010 US Open with a straight sets yet hard earned victory over Estonian Kaia Kanepi.

Zvonareva opened the match on a good note and broke Kanepi's serve in the very first game to eventually wrap up the first set by 6 games to 3. The second set saw some struggle from the Estonian who traded breaks with her Russian opponent before losing a crucial serve in the last game to give away the match with a 3-6, 5-7 scoreline.
Zvonareva now meets the winner of the match between top seed and 2009 finalist Caroline Wozniacki and Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, who take courts later today.
