By RohitSharma (TennisEarth.com), Submitted On
Chinese superstar Jie Zheng started the year on a wonderful note and reached the semifinal of the 2010 Australian Open. However, she could not maintain the solid form, atleast in Malaysia when she lost her second round match to rising Taiwanese star Kai-Chen Chang with a 6-2, 6-3 scoreline and bowed out of the 2010 Malaysian Open, being played here in Kuala Lumpur.
In the other second round match of the day, sixth seed Sybille Bammer got the better of Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 6-0 to reach the last eight. She was later joined by unseeded South African Chanelle Scheepers, who struggled before registering a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over German Tatjana Malek to reach the quarterfinals of the event.
In the day's only other singles match, Slovakian Magdalena Rybarikova took out Thai Noppawan Lertcheewakarn 6-4, 7-5 in exactly 90 minutes of play.
