Bidding for her fourth career WTA title, World No. 31 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium will take on World No. 101 Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria in her opening encounter of the 2012 Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem, a WTA International tournament, being played here in Fes, Morocco.
The rising WTA star Yanina Wickmayer has a good 16-8 win-loss record for the season. The twenty two years old Belgian reached the second-round at Auckland but lost in the Aussie Open opener. She made a fine progress afterwards, as she advanced into the semis at Paris and then also finished as a quarter-finalist in Doha. After struggling a bit on tour, the Belgian reached the fourth round at Miami.
Wickmayer’s opponent is twenty five years old Patricia Mayr-Achleitner, who is currently ranked as World No. 101 in the WTA Rankings. The Austrian has a poor 7-11 win-loss record for the season and she is bidding for her maiden title on tour.
This will be a first meeting between these two contenders and Wickmayer is crushing favourite.
