Last year finalist Caroline Wozniacki sizzled in a windy New York, as the Dane earned another straight set victory to reach the semifinal of the US Open 2010. Wozniacki defeated the Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova with a 6-2 7-5 and secured her berth in the last four.
As expected, Cibulkova started off the match on a brighter note and broke the top-seed in the opening game of the match. But, Wozniacki did not take long to get into the groove and broke back in the second game of the first set. Finally, Wozniacki broke the Slovakian in the sixth game of the first set and won it with a 6-2 score.
Cibulkova played well in the second set too and held on to her serve – amidst stiff competition. Wozniacki did have some opportunities to make quick in-roads into the second set, but the Dane could not capitalize on them. In fact, windy conditions also posed some serious problems for both the players, but the Dane kept the pressure on. And, just at the nick of time in the eleventh game of the second set, Wozniacki broke the Slovakian. Then, Wozniacki held on to her serve in the next game and won the match – in a comprehensive manner.
