Wozniacki opened the match well and broke the American's serve repeatedly to take the opening set by 6 games to 1. The second set did not change the story much as the Dane kept total control of the match to complete the 6-1, 6-1 win in little over an hour of play.
Earlier in the day, former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova survived mid match jitters to beat Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in almost two hours of play. She was soon joined by fourth seed and 2008 finalist Jelena Jankovic, who posted an equally impressive yet hard earned 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Simona Halep of Romania.
In another three setter of the day, 2006 champion Maria Sharapova registered a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Australian Jarmila Groth. Sharapova has been in phenomenal form this season with two titles and numerous runner up finishes, the most recent of which was to Kim Clijsters in Cincinnati final.
Other notable winners of the day were Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva, Sabine Lisicki, Maria Kirilenko, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, Urszula Radwanska, Agnieszka Radwanska, Bethanie Mattek Sands, Aravane Rezai, Kaia Kanepi, Patty Schnyder, Yanina Wickmayer, Andrea Petkovic and Kateryna Bondarenko, who upended eighth seed Na Li in three gruelling sets.
