Caroline Wozniacki played with the utmost precision to defeat the Swiss Patty Schnyder in straight sets with a 7-5 7-5 scoreline to reach the third round at the Rogers Cup 2010, being played here in Montreal, Canada.
Wozniacki brought in her superb baseline play into the game and did not allow Schnyder to get any freebies. The second-ranked Wozniacki will meet Flavia Pennetta of Italy in the next round. Pennetta defeated the Russian Alisa Kleybanova with a 6-3 6-3 scoreline.
On the other hand, seventh-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland beat Vania King of the United States 6-0 6-3 and fourth-seeded Elena Dementieva of Russia edged past Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-2 6-4.
In an all-Russian match, Dinara Safina, the 2008 winner in Montreal defeated Nadia Petrova in three gruelling sets with a 7-5 4-6 6-4 scoreline.
After the match, Safina said, “It’s the first time in a long time I could play the three-set match against a top player and physically I could feel fine” She further added, “This was a nice test for me, for my back, for everything.”
