Top seed Caroline Wozniacki secured her first ever win over Russian superstar Maria Sharapova in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 US Open, the year's last major being played here in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Re-live the tense moments of Wozniacki-Sharapova thriller.
Woznaicki opened the match on a good note and broke Sharapova's serve in the fourth game to get an instant lead. Sharapova did get a break back but once again lost focus to let Wozniacki wrap up the set by 6 games to 3. Sharapova served 9 double faults, a few of them in succession to give away crucial points to the young Dane.
The second set also started on a similar note when Sharapova lost her serve early on to give Wozniacki a cushion break, which she duly consolidated to complete the 6-3, 6-4 win one hour and 53 minutes of play.
Sharapova hit a massive 32 winners but also made 36 unforced errors which turned out to be the deciding factor in the match. Wozniacki now faces Estonian Kaia Kanepi, who made it to the second Grand Slam quarterfinal in a row with a come-from-behind victory over last year's semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer with a 0-6, 7-6(2), 6-1 scoreline in two hours and 21 minutes of absolute tussle.
