Fourth seeded British Andy Murray dug deep and overcame first set loss to beat seventh seeded David Ferrer of Spain with 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 6-4, 7-6(4) scoreline in the quarter-final match of The Championships 2012, Wimbledon.
Both players held to their service games in the start of the first set, till Ferrer broke Murray at 3-1 and was asked to serve out for the set at 5-4. But, the Spaniard got himself broken there and helped Murray to stay alive in the set. The set went to the tie breaker from there, where Murray jumped the line at crucial times and lost the first set with 7-6(5) scoreline.
Match Cast: Murray vs Ferrer
The second set was more competitive than the first set as no breaks were traded till 5-4 where Ferrer broke Murray. However, Murray broke back immediately in the next game and tied the scores at 5-5. The second set also went to the tie breaker, where more drama followed. Ferrer raced to 5-2 in the tie breaker, but lost his way from there and allowed Murray to level the match at set apiece with 7-6(6) scoreline. The Brit fired whopping 10 aces in the set, while Ferrer had none to its credit.
The third set too looked to be going tie breaker way but Murray was lucky to earn a lone break at 5-4 and then served out for 2-1 lead in the match. The fourth set went the tie breaker way as none of the player was able to secure a break in the set. Murray overpowered Ferrer with his power hitting in the tie breaker and emerged victorious with 7-6(4) scoreline.
He will next face Frenchman Jo wilfried Tsonga, who edged past German Philipp Kohlschreiber with 7-6(5),4-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 scoreline in another quarter-final of the day.
