World No.8 Angelique Kerber is all set to take on 4 time Grand Slam Champion Kim Clijsters in the 4th round clash at the All England Club.
Clijsters is presently ranked at No 47 in the rankings and has a win-loss record of 13-3 year. She reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open but has skipped most of the tournaments since then because of an injury. The Belgian has also announced that she will be retiring after the US Open this year. With lack of match practice, Clijsters is still showing glimpses of the form she played in when she was in her prime. She retired two weeks ago from the UNICEF Open, raising more questions about her health. She has really displayed fine tennis so far as she has defeated Jankovic and Hlavackova in straight sets, highlighting the fact she is here for business and will try going as far as she can.
Her opponent today, Angelique Kerber has had a remarkable year so far. Kerber was the runner up at the recently concluded WTA event at Eastbourne. Her run to the pre-quarter stage here has also been quite uneventful with the German playing supremely well. In her third round clash with Christina Mchale she dropped just 5 games. What exemplifies her fantastic year is the fact that the German has the most no. of wins this year at 43. She has also won 2 titles this year.
These two have never played before and TennisEarth picks a hard-fought win for Kerber here.
