In the first round here at The Championships, Bernard Tomic will face David Goffin, who surprised the world with his display against Roger Federer at the recently concluded French Open.
Tomic started off the year well as he reached the semifinals of the season opening Brisbane International in Australia. He did reasonably well at the Australian Open reaching the round of 16 where he was defeated by Roger Federer. Since then however, he has been on a downward spiral and his best result came at Delray Beach where he was ousted by the ever-rising John Isner in the quarter-final. The Aussie's clay court season was also a disappointing, and he never made really made an impact there either. At Roland Garros, Tomic was knocked out in the second round itself.
His Grass court season has also started off poorly and he lost both his matches in Halle and in Eastbourne recently. His win/loss record this year stands at 19/15.
His opponent – David Goffin is an emerging talent and says his idol is the great Roger Federer. He played extremely well at Roland Garros taking a set off of his idol. He started his year as the 174th player in the world and is now ranked at 70. This kid has a long way to go and really is the rising star of tennis. His win-loss record of 8-7 is incredible considering his rank.
This will be the first meeting between these two and TennisEarth picks a win for Goffin here.
