Wickmayer wins the 'Battle of Belgians' in Luxembourg

Fifth seed and US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer emerged victorious in the 'Battle of Belgians' to reach the semifinals of the 2009 BGL Luxembourg Open.
Fifth seed and US Open semifinalist Yanina Wickmayer emerged victorious in the 'Battle of Belgians' against Kristen Flipkens to reach the semifinals of the 2009 BGL Luxembourg Open, being played here in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.
Wickmayer started the match amidst tight contest and prevailed in a one-sided tie-break to have a headstart to the match. The second set saw a shift in momentum when Flipkens picked up an elusive break to level the match one set a piece. The decider turned out to be a lopsided affair when Wickmayer reeled off six games to one to register the 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-1 win.
Earlier in the day, German Sabine Lisicki beat Kim Clijsters' conqueror Patty Schnyder 6-4, 6-2 in just 67 minutes to reach the last four of the event.
"I think I played a pretty good match. I won the important points," Lisicki said. "I was very happy I won the first set because I was 4-3 down. It makes me very happy to feel good on the court again, especially after all the injuries. I am very much looking forward to playing the semifinals tomorrow."
An in-form Israeli Shahar Peer caused the biggest upset of the day when she beat Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 6-2, 7-6(4) in a one hour and 39 minute match to make it to the last four of the event.
The semifinal line-up was completed when Swiss Timea Bacsinszky prevailed in a two hour and 8 minute marathon to register a 6-7(3) 6-1, 6-4 win over Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik to extend her run at the event.
