Trying hard to redeem her position in the WTA Rankings, Belgian Yanina Wickmayer earned a straight sets 7-6(4) 6-3 victory over Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and reached the quarterfinals of the 2012 Nurnberger Gastein Ladies Open on Thursday.
On the other hand, third-seeded Ksenia Pervak eased past Sarah Gronert, 6-2 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Pervak will take on Chichi Scholl, who subdued sixth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu 6-3 6-4. In another exciting encounter, Mandy Minella advanced into her second career WTA quarterfinal with a 6-2 3-6 6-3 win over No.6 seed Carla Suárez Navarro.
"I'm very happy that I won this match," Minella said. "I played really good. Earlier in the week it was quite humid and slow, but today it was drier and I took advantage of this and I'm pleased with how aggressive I played."
