World No.1 Victoria Azarenka has had an amazing year in 2012, with six titles to her name already, the Belarusian has taken the tennis world by storm and has been World No.1 for almost the entire year. Victoria was rewarded with the year ending World No.1 rank, even before she entered these on-going season ending championships.
Azarenka has had a great run in 2012 as she won the Australian Open title along with five others. The Belarusian withdrew from the Toray Pan Pacific Open, Tokyo a few weeks ago after falling sick in the quarter-finals but looked fine in her first round in Beijing, where she added a fifth title to her name by defeating rival and World No.2 Maria Sharapova in the final. She has accumulated a win-loss record of 68-8 so far this season.
At the other end is a motivated Li Na. The last one to qualify for the event, Li has had a few up and downs in 2012. With just a single trophy this year, she would be aiming to finish then year at the highest point. The Chinese won the Cincinnati Open in Ohio (by beating Kerber herself in the final), registering one of the biggest wins of her career. It was her first significant title since her 2011 Roland Garros triumph. Her performance in that final against Angelique Kerber was sublime, as she played an almost perfect deciding set to undo the German.
And even though she disappointed at the US Open, she has looked a different player ever since she has appointed Carlos Rodriguez as her new coach. Rodriguez was the coach of former Belgian great Justin Henin and has had a positive impact on the Chinese sensation's play.
These two are evenly matched when it comes to the head to head record as both have 4 wins against one another. In 2012 however, Azarenka leads 2-0.
TennisEarth picks a hard fought win for the Belarusian in this one.
