World No.2 Victoria Azarenka powered her way into the second round of Wimbledon after a careless yet dominating performance against American Irina Falconi. Azarenka won this match 6-1, 6-4 in over an hour.
Azarenka took the opening set in 35 minutes after a really long first service game. With 10 winners and 3 breaks of serves , Azarenka really stepped up another level to take the opening set in style. After taking the first game, Azarenka found the confidence she needed to break the shackles as Falconi had no idea what had struck her. Some really great execution of points helped Azarenka wrapping the first set after Falconi managed winning just one game.
The second set saw everything, with Azarenka taking a double break cushion to lead 4-1 in the set, only to see a spirited Falconi fight back and trouble Azarenka by taking the next three games to tie the set at 4 all. But, Azarenka did not let her confidence go down as she broke the Falconi serve in the vital ninth game to serve out the match to seal a spot in the second round.
