Venus returns to winner's circle with Dubai tennis title

Third seed and defending champon Venus Williams successfully defended her Dubai Tennis Championship title with a straight sets 6-3, 7-5 win over rising Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka in a magnificient high quality final, being played here in the desert city of Dubai, UAE.

Williams opened the match well and broke Azarenka in the sixth game to wrap up the opening set by 6 games to 3. The second set brought an early break for Williams which she soon consolidated for a 3-1 lead. Though Azarenka broke Williams back to make an attempt to get back into the match, another break in the eleventh game in Venus' favour helped the American serve for the match which she duly did and won the title.
This is Williams' 42 Sony Ericsson WTA Singles title. Her last triumph came almost an year ago in Acapulco after which she finished runner up to sister Serena at Wimbledon and Sony Ericsson Championships finals.
For her superb effort, Williams pocketed a winner's check of US$ 350,000 whereas Azarenka settled for US$ 175,000.
