This year, Venus Williams did everything right to win the Billie Jean King Cup in the BNP Paribas Showdown on Monday night at Madison Square Garden. Last year, she lost the final to her sister Serena Williams. American Venus Williams beat Belgian Kim Clijsters 6-4 3-6 7-5 in a hard fought match.
After the match, Venus quoted that she did miss her younger sister during the match. She further added that “On the way here, I kept thinking, ‘I’m going to see Serena in New York. We talked today, but we didn’t talk about tennis at all.” Serena Williams had to withdraw from the tournament a week ago because of her leg injury.
Clijsters struggled early in the match, but gradually got her rhythm back and pushed Venus for every point. On her defeat, Clijsters said, “In the beginning it took some time to find an aggressive game.” She further added that “If you’re not feeling the ball 100 percent, it’s very hard. I kind of just had to look for my game a little bit, really look for my position on court. I got better as my match went on.”
