Former World No. 1 Venus Williams of USA will make her Hopman Cup debut in Perth later this year, partnering with her compatriot John Isner to represent the United States in the mixed international tournament. Hopman Cup organizers announced it on Wednesday.
Seven-time grand slam champion Williams has to miss-out many tournaments this year due to her poor health. She must be looking forward to match up with her sister Serena’s performance. Serena won this tournament in 2008 with Mardy Fish.
"I've never been to Perth - I've never played the Hopman Cup, so for me it's going to be a wonderful experience," Williams said in a media release. I've watched it literally every year on TV so now I get to play, I'm very excited."
John Isner won the Hopman Cup title in 2011 with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. "My previous two partners have been very, very small," said Isner. He further added that "But Venus is a little bit taller so I'm not going to look like such a giant out there. She's obviously one of the greatest players ever so I think our team has a good shot to do well."

I guess it depends on Venus, but also who they're playing against. I hope Laura and Andy enter again.

Yeah if they're feeling it they could be hard to beat.

It's going to be tough, this would be a great team if they're both at their best?

Look forward to the doubles. Who's serve will crack first? Will Venus stand 2 metres inside the baseline to return males serves?!

Very odd. But she could teach Isner a thing or two!

This is an odd choice for her, but she needs as much practice as she can get I suppose.
