Former World No.1 Venus Williams humbled 12th Seed Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in 1 hour and 24 minutes to book a place in the Second Round of the US Open. The Former Champion was at her aggressive best, playing some really high quality tennis and forcing errors out of her Belgian counterpart.
In just 27 minutes, Williams took the first set after playing some high intensity tennis. Williams was at her aggressive best, smacking 12 winners and just 5 unforced errors to make things really tough for the Belgian. She applied a lot of pressure on the Flipkens' serve too, forcing the 12th seed to hit as many as 5 double faults in the First Set itself. With 9 unforced errors coming from the Flipkens' racquet, it was one way traffic for Williams, who converted thrice in the set to take it 6-1.

The Second Set saw the games getting really long with both players looking to draw errors from each other. But it was Venus who broke the very first Flipkens service game only to see her seeded opponent comeback. It was from there on that Venus raised the ante and never looked back. With cracking winners along with some control on the ball, the American kept Flipkens on the move throughout to finally wrap when Flipkens hit a forehand wide.
