Venus Williams came out all guns blazing in her match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the Arthur Ashe, thrashing her opponent in straight set. The former champion won the match 6-2,6-1 smashing 22 winners and arrowed 5 aces on her route to victory.
The opening set did not start ideally for the two time champion as she dropped serve with B Mattek-Sands looking good. She then held serve to make it 2-0. The elder Williams sister then held serve and then ran ragged. She won five straight games to make it 5-2. It had all changed suddenly for the former World No.1. She finally won the set 6-3, serving 5 aces 13 winners.

Venus continued from where she left off in the first set and continued to attack her counterpart. This time she didn't give Mattek-Sands a sniff and destroyed her winning the set 6-1. She won 28 out of the 44 points, completing the landslide.
Venus took just about an hour to finish off her opponent.
