Former World No.1 and one of most discussed players on the WTA Tour Ana Ivanovic, takes the show court when she faces Swedish Sofia Arvidsson for place in the Round of 32 of the last Grand Slam of the year at the US Open. Both players have displayed some good form coming into this match and this match too, promises to be a good one.
Ivanovic has been playing some really high quality tennis and is knocking on the Top-10 door after some time (ranked 13th in the World) and would be hoping to reach there by this year end. With a decent 26-15 win-loss record this year, Ivanovic is still in search for her first title of 2012 and would also be looking to go deep into this tournament by reaching the second week to have a good shot at the elusive Top-10 club. With some pouncing forehands and a good serve, Ivanovic’s will to win matches has seen her get back amongst the best in the business.
Arvidsson, on the other hand, comes into US Open ranked 51 in the World. With a title to her name in 2012 (Memphis Open), Arvidsson is one of those players on tour who can give some jitters to the higher ranked opponents by grinding in. She has managed compiling a decent win-loss record of 25-18 and would be hoping to surpass her personal best of 29 sometime soon.
The two have faced each other 4 times in the past with Ivanovic leading 3-1 in their head-to-head encounters. This one too, looks like going Ivanovic’s way until Arvidsson plays some sensational tennis to outperform the Serb.
