In the second set, Serena got a early break at 2-1 and then reeled off next four more games to win the match in straight sets.
In another match of the day, 2009 U.S Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark was stunned by Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-2, 6-2.
“I think it's a temporary issue,” rued Wozniacki. “Hopefully it will get better quickly. It's frustrating to have some injuries, but it happens to everyone. It's just about moving on.”
She added “Obviously definitely the Grand Slams this year hasn't been great. You know, after the year's finished you can evaluate you can see what was good and wasn't so good, yeah, work from there."
