World No.7 and defending US Open champion Samantha Stosur has been really impressive so far at the US Open, she faces talented teenager in the form of Laura Robson, who has been on a seed killing spree. The winner advances to the last eight of the last Grand Slam of the year.
All thanks to an amazing kicking serve, Stosur has had everyone on their toes on the WTA Tour and shocked everyone by lifting the US Open last year. The style with which Stosur plays, the winners count will be more and so will be the unforced errors. Stosur has failed to dominate her opponents the way she did last year and has suffered some premature exits in 2012.
Though her serve and a heavy forehand along with the accurate volleys give the big guns a run for their money, Stosur has not had things going her way this season as she still hunts for her first title of 2012 and what better than successfully defending you title. With a win-loss record of 34-17 this year, Stosur would be aiming at defending most of her points she got by lifting the trophy last year.
Robson, on the other hand is ranked at 89 in the world and has compiled a win-loss record of 25-21, proving though she has won matches, she hasn’t won a lot of them back-to-back. Still cashing in on experience, this young south paw has already announced her arrival after two scintillating wins, first over Kim Clijsters and then Na Li in the previous match.
This is the first meeting between the two and it is tough to predict a winner for this one. Will Stosur continue her defence campaign or will Robson’s fairytale run continue? Only time will tell!

robson has massive potential i think she can do it.. it would seem that winning the silver medal and murray winning the singles gold has shown her that it isn't impossible for british players to compete at the top of the game, murray has achieved it, he hammered federer in that gold medal match, why can't robson do it, she seems really confident after beating clijsters and li na. top 10 spot is waiting for her.
