In the third round of the US Open fifth seed Petra Kvitova will take on Pauline Parmentier from France.
Wimbledon 2011 winner – Petra Kvitova has also had a disappointing year so far, having failed to make any form of impact since that Grand Slam win.
This could be her chance to redeem herself, having lost early in the Olympics as well. Kvitova generally tends to do well on the hard courts and made the semis in Cincinnati. Her win-loss record 41-12 this year, which is at most mediocre. She is seeded 5 for this year's event and will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat if she has to win her second Grand Slam title.
Kvitova recently claimed her second title of the year at New Haven, which will add some more confidence to the Czech's play.
On the opposite side of court Parmentier is ranked 90 in the world and has a win-loss record of 23/24 so far. The Frenchwoman is yet to have a deep run into a tournament this year, and with the US Open crowd favouring the underdog, this could very well be that tournament for her. She overcame the much fancied Yanina Wickmayer in her second round match.
These two have met just twice before and the Czech has come out on top on both those ocassions.
TennisEarth predicts a win for the the fifth seed in this third round clash.
