With some great performances on tour this year, big serving Canadian Milos Raonic locks horns with Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year. Raonic would be looking to progress deep into this tournament as the fast hard courts of Flushing Meadows would suit his game.
With a couple of titles to his name this year, Roanic is sitting pretty at his highest ranking yet at No. 16 and is looking to climb up further up the rankings ladder. With a blazing serve that always comes to his rescue when needed, Raonic has been giving some really impressive performances and has managed compiling a 34-14 win-loss record for this season. His two quarter-final appearances in the US Open series must have a lot to his confidence as he would be eying a second week run here at least.
His opponent, Mathieu is coming off and injury and is looking to get back to form as he looks to crack the Top 75 at least by the end of this year. With a win-loss record of 10-12 this year, Mathieu came back from 2 sets to 0 down to beat Igor Andreev in the previous round, proving he still has the fighting qualities he is known to have.
This is first meeting between the two and it is tough to predict a winner as both players are unpredictable in their own way!
