With some really impressive performances on tour this year, big serving Canadian Milos Raonic locks horns with local boy James Blake in the third round of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year. Both players would want to capitalize on this opportunity and progress further into the tournament.
With two titles to his credit this year, Roanic is sitting at his highest ranking yet at No.16 on the ATP charts and is looking to climb up further up the rankings ladder. With a scorching serve that always comes to his rescue when needed, Raonic has been giving some really notable results and has managed compiling a 35-14 win-loss record for this season. His two quarter-final stints in the US Open series must have given him a lot to his confidence as he would be eying a second week run here at least.
His opponent, Blake is a veteran at the US Open and knows how to win matches. A former Top-5, it was the injuries and the peculiar accidents he had that just took away every part of his game. He has got great legs and really flat forehand that trouble some of the best as he looks to comeback hard this year. With a win-loss record of 7-11 this year, Blake won his previous round with rather ease, proving he is settling down well at Flushing Meadows. With the crowd behind him, Blake’s unpredictability can turn into his greatest asset as he thrives on the crowd support.
The two have met once before with Raonic taking that encounter. This one too, would have Roanic coming in as a favorite, but do not count Blake out as he might outplay the Canadian today.
