Ravishing tennis beauty Maria Sharapova has been on a demolition spree and has lost just seven games in three matches. She continues her quest to capture the US Open title for the second time when she takes on fellow Russian Nadia Petrova for a place in the quarter-finals.
Sharapova has reignited the hunger to win matches that took her to the top of the mountain and has been destroying opponents to step forward deep into most of the tournaments she has featured in. With thumping ground strokes and a great serve, Sharapova’s greatest attribute is her ability to turn the tables around from any situation. Gunning for her fourth title of the year and twenty eighth overall, Sharapova completed her career slam after winning the French Open this year. With a great win-loss record of 47-7 this season, Sharapova would want to regain the World No.1 ranking and retain it longer than she did some time back.
Her Russian counterpart, Petrova, is a former Top-3 in the world and is presently ranked at 22 on the WTA charts. With a great serve and some really clean and hard ground strokes, Petrova can give the best some sleepless nights when it is her day. She has won a title on the WTA Tour this year and would be aiming to get back amongst the best in the world in the
near future. She has compiled a win-loss record of 27-16 coming into this match.
The two know each other’s game fairly well and have been on the opposite side of the net nine times. Sharapova has won 8 of those encounters and would want to extend her lead. Petrova, on the other hand, would not mind at a quarter-final stint here.
