Ninth seeded John Isner of America was sent packing by German Philipp Kohlschreiber with 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 scoreline in the third round match of the US Open 2012 Tennis Championships on Sunday night.
It's disappointing," he said "I didn't play the right way, and that's been the story when I've lost at Slams. I just played too passively and it doesn't work out when I do that."
The German got a lone break of serve at 4-3 in the first set and kept it till the end to take a set lead in the match. Isner responded back with a break at 4-2 in the second set and kept it till the end to level the match scores at set apiece.
Match Cast: Isner vs Kohlscreiber
Isner took 2-1 lead in the match when Kohlschreiber failed to hold his serve in the ninth game and the American successfully served out for the set in the next game.
At 3-4 in the fourth set, Isner played a sloppy game and gifted a break to Kohlschreiber with a double fault. In the next game, the German served out for the set to love and took the match into the deciding set.
Kohlschreiber broke Isner in the second game of the fifth set and kept the distance till the end to emerge victorious in the duel.
