Maintaining his incredible run this season so far, the World No. 1 Roger Federer started his campaign at US Open 2012 with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 scoreline against twenty three years old Donald Young of America on Monday.

Both players started the match on a positive note and held their service games. Federer drew first blood in the ninth game of the first set and then held his serve successfully to take a set lead in the match. In the second set, the two players exchanged a break of serve in the start of the set before Federer broke Young twice to go 2-0 in the match.

The Swiss secured another broke of serve at 2-1 in the third set and kept it till the end to wrap the match in straight sets. Federer smacked 27 winners and broke Young's serve five times. He also was very effective at the net, winning 19 out of 23 points.

Federer is gunning for his sixth US Open crown and this time he is looking more resilient and determined. He reclaimed his No. 1 ranking after more than two years – with his Wimbledon title triumph last month.

He next faces German Bjorn Phau, who ousted Belgian Maxime Authom 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
