Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the hope of France went through into the fourth round of the French Open, as he swept aside Italian Fabio Fognini in a highly entertaining match. The Frenchman won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4,6-4.
In a seesaw first set, World No.5 Tsonga is hardly consistent and plays erratically. He is broken two times, but breaks the Italian three times to take the set. Both players served poorly and had first serve percentages of around 70. Tsonga served 3 aces in the set compared to none for the Italian.

The second set was once again full of drama, twists and turns, the tide turned one way and then other. Tsonga broke early, took a 3-1 lead. Fognini then woke up and plays some really impressive and resilient tennis to come back into the match and levels the set at 3-3. Just when it seemed as if the tide had turned for the set, Tsonga broke again, and then held on to take the set. The winner tally for Tsonga rises to 36 to 24 for Fognini.
The third set was more of the same from both players once more. Fognini was erratic once more, plays some scintillating winners but is unable to be consistent and lost his cool to lose the set 6-4.
Tsonga now faces the winner Gilles Simon and Stansilas Wawrinka.
