Top ranked Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga gave an impressive start to his nation, France' 2010 Davis Cup title campaign with a straight sets victory over German Benjamin Becker to give host nation France a formidable 2-0 lead in the tie, played here at Palais des Sports in Toulon, France.

Tsonga opened the match on a high note and capitalised on breaks he earned to race to a two sets to love lead. As the match went into the third set, Tsonga found himself a little surprised by the German's instant rise in play which resulted in Becker winning the third set in a gruelling tie-break. Things then were decided by a crucial early break which helped the Australian Open semifinalist complete a 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(2) 6-3 win in two hours and 46 minutes of play.
Earlier in the day, Frenchman Gael Monfils recorded a confident straight sets win over German No.1 Philipp Kohlschreiber with a 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(5) scoreline.
With such a commanding lead, France will put in their best in tomorrow's doubles rubber to clinch the tie and move to the next round. The doubles match features the French pair of Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra up against Germans Philipp Kohlschreiber and Christopher Kas.
