Fifth seeded Bernard Tomic of Australia made a winning debut at the BMW Open, Munich with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Belgium’s Olivier Rochus in just 68 minutes.
Tomic arrowed nine aces and converted 3 out of 4 break points to secure the victory in straight sets.
Tomic said "I think I played very good from the baseline. I served really good and I think I also played the big points at the right time. Those little key changes in the match made me win.
He added "It’s a different feeling now, being seeded for an event. I feel very confident the way I’m playing now on clay as of two weeks ago. I think I’ve got a very good chance to play well and go deep into the tournament."
In other match of the day, another Belgian Steve Darcis was shown the exit door by Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo with 6-4, 6-3 score line. Giraldo broke Darcis thrice in the match to post a straight set victory.
