Serbian Janko Tipsarevic posted the biggest upset of the day at Madrid Open on friday with 7-6(2), 6-3 straight set win over top seeded and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final match of the day.
Tipsarevic took his time to settle in the middle and fended off couple of break points in his service games. He continued to display a solid defense game in his all service games and took the set to a tie breaker. Tipsarevic upped the level of his play there and outdid Djokovic with his heavy ground strokes to close the set 7-6(2).

No breaks were exchanged in the second set till 4-2 where Tipsarevic broke Djokovic for the first time in the match and kept the distance till the end to score a straight set victory.
Tipsarevic arrowed 7 aces along with 30 winners in the middle and also benefitted from 20 unforced errors made by Djokovic in the match.
He will next face either Swiss Roger Federer or David Ferrer of Spain in the semis.
