World No 6 Aussie Samantha Stosur defeated Elena Baltacha of Britain with 6-4, 6-0 scoreline in her first round match at French Open 2012.

Stosur opened the match on a strong note as she broke Baltacha in the second game of the first set and raced to 3-0 lead.

Baltacha broke back in the ninth game of the set and threatened to take the set to a distance but she failed to hold her serve in the next game, while serving to stay in the set and gifted a one set lead to Stosur in the match.

The Aussie upped the level of her play in the second set and blew apart her opponent with deep groundstrokes and heavy serves. Stosur posted a bagel in the second set to win in straight sets.

Stosur next faces either American Irina Falconi or Edina Gallovits of Romania.

In other match of the day, 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova downed 6-1, 6- 3 Croat Mirjana Lucic.
