For once a Swede great that failed at the French Open. Stefen Edberg's serve and volley style, never really suited the surface and left Edberg wondering what could have been. He is yet another high profile casualty here at Roland Garros. Edberg won each of the other three Grand Slams twice, but failed to replicate that in Paris. Nevertheless, he did reach the finals here in 1989, beating the supremely talented Boris Becker en-route to it. In the final, he met Michael Chang, Chang had defied laws of physics and medicine ( he almost retired in his fourth round clash with Lendl), and he continued to do that, as he overcame the Swede in perhaps one of the best French Open finals in history.
