Stan Wawrinka vs. Sam Querrey: AEGON Championships Round 3 Preview
World No.3 Stan Wawrinka will continue his mission to capture a maiden grass-court title on the lawns of the historic Queen's Club as he will confront the big serving American Sam Querrey for a berth in the last 8 of the AEGON Championships on Thursday. Can the Swiss No.1 outgun a tricky competitor on the day?

Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka turned out to be extremely fortunate on Wednesday as his opponent in the second round of the Wimbledon warm-up tournament Marcos Baghdatis was forced to pull out after barely 16 minutes of play because of a shoulder injury. Afterwards, even though Wawrinka sympathised with the Cypriot’s condition, he claimed that his level of play was certainly improving on grass.

The Lausanne native is also participating in the doubles alongside rising Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov. His decision to compete in the doubles has been a wise one as it has at least given him two professional matches to get himself acclimatized to grass court play. It has indeed been a blessing in disguise as his lone singles match was over all in 20 minutes.

In contrast, Sam Querrey has been experiencing a prolonged slump in form. A former champion at the Queen’s Club back in 2010, Sam is down to No.78 in the rankings and has failed to make it past the round of 16 in his previous three events. But, his game built around his massive serve and his heavy ground-strokes is a dangerous proposition to deal with on a surface like grass and hence, Wawrinka would need to be a bit more careful in his play when he will take him on later this afternoon.

Wawrinka has a comprehensive 3-1 edge over the man from the United States in their past fights on the ATP Tour. Once more, he will reach the stadium as the big favourite as he is looking extremely dedicated to put up a fine show here in London. Additionally, a deep run on grass could prove to be a confidence booster for him ahead of Wimbledon where he has no points to defend as he was beaten in round 1 last year.
