Well, the 11th-seeded Albert Montanes, who reached the semi-finalis here back in 2004, snapped a three-match losing streak in Barcelona as he beat the Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-2, 6-2.

On the other hand, twelfth seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez reached the second round for a second straight year after beating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in straight sets with a 7-6(6), 6-3 scoreline. The third Spaniard Pablo Andujar joined the pair in the second round after beating Gerard Granollers-Pujol 6-0, 6-1.

Colombian Santiago Giraldo knocked out the No. 13 seed Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil with a 7-5, 6-3 scoreline. Other winners of day were: Kevin Anderson, Juan Monaco and Victor Hanescu.
