Somdev Devvarman vs Ernests Gulbis: Vienna Open Match Preview
Immensely talented Latvian Ernests Gulbis is back in action as he takes on Somdev Devvarman from India today in the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy.

One of the most talented youngsters in the world – Ernests Gulbis today takes on Indian Somdev Devvarman. The mercurial Latvian has had a poor year, and has not played a lot of professional tennis this year.

Gulbis, once ranked as high 21 in the world in February 2011 is now 159 in the world. The temperamental right hander has suffered from a severe loss of form this year and continues to reach newer lows every week. Gulbis is a player capable of the spectacular, and has a victory over Tomas Berdych this year already. He also beat Tommy Haas at the US Open, but he continues to be inconsistent. He has a win-loss record of 16-17 this year, which is a desperately poor return. He would be looking for his first title this year in Vienna.

Somdev, ranked at a very low 579, comes into this match after playing just two professional match in 2012. With an injury to his shoulder some time back, Somdev has lost all his points that he collected and would be sighting a good comeback to the tour. His footwork is his biggest asset as he runs down a lot of balls, frustrating his opponent to the core. He is yet to win a match, he has a great chance to get that first win against the inconsistent Latvian.

These two have just played once that was back in 2009, which Gulbis won in straight sets.

TennisEarth picks a win for the Gulbis in this one.

Gulbis should win, no? I don't know enough about either player to really know.
