Indian star Somdev DevVarman ended the hopes of an all-South African final in Johannesburg with a clinical win over unseeded South African Izak Van der Merwe. He now faces home favourite Kevin Anderson for the maiden ATP singles title at the SA tennis Open, being played here in the South African city.
DevVarman took just 86 minutes to beat Van der Merwe 6-2, 6-4 and reach the second ATP singles final of his career. DevVarman, who celebrates his 26th birthday next week, lost the final of home tournament in Chennai to Marin Cilic two years ago.
In the other semifinal, home favourite Kevin Anderson displayed superb tennis and came from a set deficit to beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-7(3), 6-0, 6-4.
Anderson fired 19 aces enroute to the three set win. The tall South African has reached his second ATP Singles final after finishing runner up in Las Vegas three years ago.
