Sloane Stephens vs. Shuai Peng: Roland Garros Round 1 Preview
Gifted American Sloane Stephens will begin her drive at Roland Garros with a first round battle with Shuai Peng of China on Monday. Whom do you expect to win during the course of the afternoon - Sloane or Shuai?

Former Aussie Open semi-finalist Sloane Stephens – labelled as the ‘Next Serena’ because of her identical style of play to her idol and World No.1 Serena Williams has not been able to live to her potential particularly in recent times. She has looked highly uninterested at times - as if she is least bothered about victories or losses on a tennis court – a very good example of this was her 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Caroline Wozniacki in Miami in March.

It is quite strange considering the fact that she is being coached by perhaps the most respected figure in the sport – Paul Annacone – the man who was the architect of Pete Sampras and Roger Federer’s many Grand Slam wins. But, somehow Stephens is not listening to him either as she has been highly inconsistent in her play since the start of the year. Actually, she can be hot and cold within a span of minutes and it is something she will have to curb, otherwise results will not follow her on the ladies’ circuit.

Meanwhile, Shuai Peng has performed even worse than Sloane as she has failed to get past the second round in her last four tournaments. Essentially, barring a run to the final in Shenzhen, she has been unable to progress beyond the quarters of any of the events in which she has participated. And, even those two last 8 appearances came at smaller Pattaya City and Marrakech tourneys.

Surprisingly, Peng has a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Floridian as she has won both their matches in Charleston in 2011 and Brussels in 2013. With Stephens not playing as well she could, Peng would have every chance of stretching that lead to 3-0 later in the day.
