Simona Halep: I like Roger Federer but he is not my idol
The Most Improved Player of the Year Simona Halep has unveiled that former WTA No.1 Justine Henin was her idol while growing up and also admitted that she admired 17 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer as well.

Romanian Simona Halep who won six titles during the course of the year and rose to No.11 in the world from No.47 at the end of 2012 has declared that she idolized yesteryear superstar Justine Henin and played the best match of her life against former top-tenner Maria Kirilenko at Flushing Meadows in 2013.

She said: “The best match was against Maria Kirilenko in the third round at the US Open this year. I played really well in that match, I was hitting every ball and going for my shots and I only lost one game. It was an important win for me because it was the first time I reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam.”

She added: “I’d love to play against Justine Henin. We are a similar size and I liked her style because she was playing very aggressively and she moved very well around the court. I’ve tried to take a few things from her and apply them to my game. Henin was my idol, and also Andrei Pavel from my country, Romania. I also like Roger Federer but he’s not my idol!”
